Maria Daines: MUSIC

I'M COMING HOME

(Maria Daines/Paul Killington)
July 8, 2009

This song was written for Bruce, an innocent Staffordshire Bull Terrier who was seized from his loving family because of Breed Specific Legislation, a law that targets and condemns dogs for looking a certain way.

Bruce was held for over two years on death row in Northern Ireland and he patiently awaited his fate while the world tried to save him. Finally a court decided Bruce could be spared the death penalty and his life was spared.

We hope this song will raise awareness of the heartbreak behind BSL and share a message that no dog is inherently dangerous because of its breed, type or shape.

Some laws are wrong...

BSL is one of them.

Please remember there are thousands of innocent dogs locked up in solitary confinement around the world, they have committed no crime yet their appearance can can be used against them to bring forth a death sentence. Dogs of pit bull 'type' are often outcast from society and removed from their homes and families. In some cases the way they are treated when they are locked up can be considered nothing less than animal abuse.

If you think BSL is wrong please write to your Member of Parliament and make your views known.

To show an example of why BSL is such a disgrace wherever it is enforced, please take a look at how Ontario is re-thinking dog law on a political level -

Educate, don't descriminate THE PIT BULL HOAX

Lennox has been locked away from his family for almost two years, please think of what breed specific legislation is doing to the families that love and care for dogs like Lennox and also imagine the distress caused to innocent dogs when everything they know is suddenly gone...

'I'm Coming Home'

I don't know where I am
But I remember where I was
I only know where you are
That's the place where I belong
I know the feel of love
I know the smiles of fun
It's hard to be alone
When all of that is gone

They took me far away
From the places that I knew
And all the friends I lost
Gonna take me back to you

I'm coming home, where I belong
Hold out your arms, gonna be there soon
I'm coming home, I know the road
I've done no wrong and I'll be running
Like the wind I said I'm coming, coming home.

It's been too long I know
And I wondered where you were
So many lonely nights
I'm so confused and I just hurt
I didn't wanna cry, I do just what I'm told
Nothing here feels right
What happened to my world?

They took me far away
From the places that I knew
And all the friends I lost
Gonna take me back to you

I'm coming home, where I belong
Hold out your arms, gonna be there soon
I'm coming home, I know the road
I've done no wrong and I'll be running
Like the wind I said I'm coming, coming home.

Two stand out messages of support while Bruce was incarcerated -

In defence of Bruce

As a canine behaviorist for 30 years, here's the one piece of sanity I can bring to those which proclaim automatic death sentences on Pit Bulls: ALL dogs--regardless of breed--ARE UNIQUE INDIVIDUALS WITH PERSONALITIES AS COMPLEX AND DIFFERENT AS ANY HUMAN BEING'S. It is obscene to deny life to an individual based solely on a preconceived prejudice. Stereotyping Pit Bulls as vicious is NOT the answer. The problem lies with the human guardians who are unfit to own these dogs--NOT the animals themselves. Therefore each situation MUST be evaluated on an INDIVIDUAL BASIS! Since Bruce has no history of aggression then justice should be served and Bruce released to his family. Please, if you have any ethics or capability for critical thinking, whatsoever, DO NOT MURDER BRUCE IN COLD BLOOD simply to carry out some unfair, ill-conceived, ignorance-based, outrageously absurd, policy.

"I have read this story :(

Please add our name, and also add the over 1,250,000 people that are part of our listening and watching community! Yes, that's, one million two hundred and fifty thousand people...and growing...the eyes of the world are upon you and watching closely. If you chose to do the right thing, then, perhaps you are working your way toward the compassion of forgiveness in all of this unruly mess the practitioners have caused for this living animal that has rights, just as any other living creature does to live in peace and comfort."

Stay well, and, peace,
